Karen Jacobs is a native Texan who graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelors of Arts in English. She taught high school English and Journalism for several years before attending Southeastern Paralegal Institute in Dallas, TX. She worked as a paralegal in various Dallas law firms before transitioning to Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI). While working as a paralegal and now buyer at TI, Karen served as a founding member on the leadership team of TI’s first faith-based diversity initiative – Christian Values Initiative (CVI) – and currently serves as CVI Chairperson. Karen has a heart for children and parents. She fervently believes that children need to be raised in God’s Word from day one, and that it’s the church’s responsibility to work with and support parents in this endeavor. She believes that a strong Children’s Ministry, where children learn about God and His love for them in a safe, loving and fun environment, is a necessary and important ministry of a New Testament church. Karen enjoys spending her leisure time with her husband, Ken, and their son Brett, when he visits from Tarleton State University. She also enjoys spending time with other women in ministry settings.
Matt Evans, Children’s Minister (children 6-12 years of age)
menofvalor1(at)gmail.com
Matthew Evans was born in Porterville, CA. When he was only five years old his family moved to South Texas where he spent his days fishing and swimming in Geronimo Creek and playing endless hours of sandlot baseball. During his middle school years his family moved to the Davis Mountains of West Texas, where Matthew experienced the life of a cowboy, working on the Prude Ranch. It was there his appreciation for God’s creation bloomed. Matthew graduated from Ruidoso High School in Ruidoso, NM in 1987. He attended Baylor University, graduating with a degree in Finance in 1991. He earned his M.B.A. from University of the Incarnate Word in 2000. He married up to Julie Evans in 1993. They moved to The Colony in 2000. They have three beautiful daughters. In his spare time Matthew enjoys hanging out with his family, reading, playing his guitar, working out, tending his garden and doing just about anything outdoors. Matthew believes God’s word is active, engaging, exciting and brings joy to those who receive it. His goal in ministry to enthusiastically engage children and families with God’s word so that it leaves a lasting and joyful imprint on their lives.

Now, Trevor is attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He is working on his Bachelors of Arts in Humanities degree, and is enjoying every minute of it! Trevor also seeks to grow daily in his walk with his personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It has really become his passion to teach young and old about the miracle of Jesus’ birth, life, and death here on this earth, as well as the treasures the Word of God holds for each individual’s life. He loves talking, laughing, watching movies, dancing, and just spending time with his girlfriend of one year, Alice Ward. Bruce and Lana,
We got home, too late to attend the prayer meeting with you all.
Johnny is back in his home, thin and frail. He has several other
tests doctors want to have before evaluating what has been causing
his problem. Please pray that things will level out. We regret
not being with you all after stating we would.
I like the website. It looks really good and informative a person
can use.
Pray you had a good group out last night. May God bless this
beginning of a new work in The Colony. John and Ann
John,
We are so glad Johnny is out of the hospital and back home! Don’t worry at all about not being able to attend last night. We know you and Ann are very tired. We missed you both last night. We also lifted you, Ann & Johnny up in prayer last night. We had an AWESOME night in the Dinner/Bible Study/Prayer Meeting! We look forward to you both coming last week.
Hello to the White Family.
I am so happy to hear that you are starting this marvelous church. You are a Great Pastor, and I appreciate eveything that you have done to help me get to where I am today. You are going to be a Great Future for The Colony.
I look forward to seeing you both Bruce & Lana when Ryan and I come into town on the 18th at church. I also just want everyone to know what kind of people that you are getting to lead this church. I might not be where I am today, had it not been for Bruce & Lana. I can’t wait to see the New Church in January 2010.
Bruce and Lana, I’m so excited for both of you. Establishing The Journey Church must be very rewarding. I will pray for you to have much success. I wish we were a little closer and we could come visit you on Wednesday. Jerry & I are very happy with our new church and are blessed every day. We go to First Baptist Church in Quitman.
Vicki
Vicki, thank you so much for the encouraging words. Yes, it has been so rewarding to used of the Lord Jesus as He plants another church in The Colony. We love this city and its surrounding cities. We look forward to our church being a blessing to those living here. We too wish you and Jerry still lived here so we could all worship together! But, it thrills us to know you have found a great church home in FBC Quitman! God’s blessings to you both! Bruce
Bruce and Lana,
We are so excited to be a part of The Journey Church…..all the way from here in Colorado as Monty serves on one of the Boards of the church. He was honored when you approached him about this over the phone, and couldn’t think of a better person to support in this aspect. We are behind you, your family, and your growing church family. We pray God’s favor and incredible BLESSING over this new adventure and “journey” where God has gone before you. We only wish we could be there every week to experience your love, passion, and knowledge of and for our Lord’s unconditional love and the willingness you have to being used as a vessel to convey that to a hurting world. We love and support you all! Monty & Leslie Williams
Monty & Leslie,
Thank you both so very much for the words of encouragement! We too wish you guys were here in the same church family with us – all of us growing in the Lord together and spending time with each other. But, I’m so glad that you both love Jesus and are plugged into a great church family there in Colorado. And, yes, by Monty being on one of the Boards, you both are actively involved in our new church. Please pray for us often. And, if you are in the area, please drop by and worship with us! We love you guys!
In Him,
Bruce…and all of The Journey Church
